I interviewed Shell Lam, owner of Poppy Penelope because I wanted to share her amazing store with you! I first met Shell at Camberwell Playgroup! Our sons were both enrolled on a Thursday. We always spoke about her dream to open a homewares and accessories store and she always inspired me to think that I should follow my dreams!
Previously a Private Banker to the super rich, she now has made this dream a reality. Poppy Penelope is a beautiful store with only the best and fine homewares and accessories. It's a true representation of her - modern, classic and unique. She hand picks each designer and will only stock the ones she admires and believes in.
I asked her about the style of her home, she laughed and said 'not like this!'. Shell has a 2 & 4 year old so she said at home it's practical and functional at the moment, 'I need to be able to wipe everything down'. I can relate to that! Like me, she has one special room which house all her special pieces and is where she can display her style.
This is why the store is so amazing because this is her creative and inspirational outlet. She can't have what she wants at home so she puts it into the store!
What are the top 3 sellers?
* Skincare by The Aromathery Co, Therapy Range - everything ranging from hand creams, hand and body washes, foot creams, diffusers and candles. She even stocks a men's range.
* Children's books and toys - brands such as Janod, Wilson & Frenchy and Winter Press Avenue do extremely well.
* Jewellery/ Accesories - Shell loves fine, handmade and unique pieces. Therefore she stocks designers such as Pigeon hole, Après Ski, Katrina Barnden, Naomi Murrell, I like Minnie, Madhunt Designs and Kingston. She has scarves from Bella Ballou, a label from Denmark and also has a huge range of clutches and bags from Arlington Milne, Elms & King and Georgie Cummings.
The jewellery and accessories are definitely my favourite. I love the fact that most of them are local Australian designers!
Over the next few posts you will see me sporting a couple of the designers with different looks.

So where does Shell see herself in 5 years? 'Continuing to live the dream with a bigger version of Poppy Penelope and to travel to source more exclusive international brands'.
Doesn't get more inspiring than that!
1. Black or White? Black
2. Vintage or Modern? Both
3. Sushi or Pizza? Sushi
4. Coffee or Tea? Coffee
5. London or Paris? London
Make sure you get yourself in there to check it out and if you are interstate Shell will happily post to you!
